Why Polytechnic Education Is Unique – Rector, Oke Ogun Polytechnic

Dr. Yekeen Adegoke Fasasi, the Acting Rector of the Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki has said that polytechnic education is unique because it combines theoretical knowledge with practical required for use in industries.

Fasasi said this on Friday, in Saki at the matriculation ceremony of the newly admitted students of the institution.

He urged the students to desist from all acts of moral laxity if they want to complete their academic program with good grade and in good time.

He said: “My dear students let me use this medium to inform you that polytechnic education is unique as it combines theoretical knowledge with practical required for use in industries:

“It is noteworthy to point out that award of certificates is based on sound academic performance and moral uprightness, you should therefore desist from all acts of moral laxity which include, assault, disrespect to constituted authority, defying lawful order and command, violation of academic rules, involvement in examination malpractices to mention but few, if you want to complete your academic programme in good time with good grade.”

Fasasi added that in spite of the challenges the institution is facing, it was able to admit 2,916 students comprising of 1,283 ND 1 and 1,633 HND 1.

His words: “I am pleased to welcome all fresh students, parents, guardians and members of the Polytechnic Community to 2021/2022 Matriculation Ceremony which marks the end of admission exercises.

“Today’s matriculation ceremony confirms admissions of students into The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki (TOP) after fulfilling all necessary admission requirements as contained in the Polytechnic Hand Book.

“I say congratulations to all the Matriculants. In spite of our challenges, the institution admitted a total number of 2,916 students comprising of ND 1 (1,283) and HND 1 (1,633).”

He called on parents and guardians to always pay unexpected visit to the students.

His words: “Also, apart from your membership of student union, you have freedom to associate with recognized associations like: Departmental Association, Muslim Student Society, Joint Christian Fellowship, Press Club and other Social Associations without involving in CULTIST activities.

“To a great extent, the lecturers and non-teaching staff will not relent in their efforts in counseling you about your expected roles as students.

“Although, the welfare of our students is our priority, I would like to urge all parents and guardians who are investing huge amount of money on these wards to always pay an unexpected visit to them in order to know if they are actually concentrating on their studies. It is my prayer that your labour on them would not be in vain.

“Finally, I will like to use this medium to express my profound gratitude to council members in attendance, top functionaries in the institution, parents and invited guests, representatives of print and electronic media for making this event a reality. Thank you for listening and God bless you all.”
